Larson Overcomes Pit Road Penalties, Rallies for Sixth-Place Finish at Dover

DOVER, Del (September 28, 2014) - Kyle Larson overcame two pit-road penalties on Saturday afternoon at Dover International Speedway to bring home a solid sixth-place finish for Turner Scott Motorsports. The weekend started off with Larson posting the fourth- and 12th-fastest laps during the two scheduled NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) practice sessions. Larson followed up by advancing the No. 42 Cartwheel by Target Chevrolet to the final round of knockout qualifying, ultimately starting the race in the fourth position.

As the 200-lap race began, Larson quickly settled into the top five until the first caution flag flew on lap 41, and crew chief Scott Zipadelli elected to bring the No. 42 Cartwheel Chevy down pit road for four tires and fuel. During the stop, however, Larson exited his pit stall with part of the fuel can still attached, which resulted in a penalty and forced him to drop to the tail end of the field. Restarting in 23rd, Larson quickly made work of the drivers in front of him, moving up to the 15th position by lap 50. Larson continued to climb through the field until another caution was called on lap 98. Zipadelli called Larson back to pit road for another standard stop, but unfortunately, Larson was hit with another penalty, this time for speeding, which once again placed the 22-year-old at the tail end of the field. Larson quickly began to climb through the field again, and by lap 135, the Cartwheel Chevy was on the tail end of the top 10. Zipadelli called for a quick two-tire pit stop under the final caution of the race on lap 149. Larson restarted the race in the sixth position and wouldn't fall outside the top 10 through the remainder of the race. Despite fighting hard to gain additional track position in the final 50 laps, Larson ultimately brought home a sixth-place finish in his fourth-career NNS start at the Monster Mile. With just five races remaining in the 2014 NNS season, Larson and his TSM team have claimed 19 top-10 finishes in just 23 starts.

Kyle Larson on Racing at Dover:

"It was quite the up-and-down day for us at Dover. Unfortunately, pit-road penalties caused us to restart towards the back of the field quite a few times this afternoon.. I'm really proud of how strong my team worked together, and I'm glad we were able to battle back and bring home another top 10 for Cartwheel and Turner Scott Motorsports. I wish we could've gotten a win at this track, but we'll give it another shot at Kansas."
